Short Biography

Hi, I'm Alexander Heusingfeld — people close to me call me Alex. I was born on in Hilden, Germany. I got 3 wonderful kids and since January 2026 I work at Vorwerk HOME as Head of Platforms & Lifecycle (VP), responsible for all platform services and ways of working related to our customer products and services.

I've always been curious about new technologies and discoveries and am passionate about how they change the way humans build things for each other.

I'm an active member of the international Software Architecture Qualification Board (iSAQB) and the curator of the CPSA Advanced Level curriculum "FLEX — flexible systems architecture".

Previously I worked as a Senior Consultant for software architecture at innoQ where I coached software development organisations on the impact of the relationship between software, people, and organizational structures.

Podcasts

I co-host Conversations about Software Engineering (CASE) and recently appeared on the Think AI podcast discussing how AI changes our work life.

Personal interests

Some years ago I was the lead singer of a German band called Freiwelt (formerly known as FREI). Apart from my interest in music and basketball, I like to spend time outside, reading, or exchanging thoughts, perspectives, and ideas with other people.

The open-source software mindset resonates with my aim to live a sustainable life. That is why I support OSS projects when I can and share my learnings openly in public talks. You can find these talks on SpeakerDeck and YouTube.

What does 'goldstift' stand for?

'goldstift' is a nickname I got from one of my bosses when I was a trainee. It is a combined word of "gold" (the valuable metal) and "stift" (a colloquial German word for "trainee"). My boss and colleagues said they really valued my work, so they started to call me "goldstift".

I felt very flattered by this appreciation and adopted the nickname.
